"Shirley Valentine" featuring Mary McEvoy

by Willy Russell (2004)

Mary McAvoy as Shirley ValentineFeaturing Mary McEvoy (Glenroe) in her one woman performance of a very troubled lady.

Meet Shirley, a 45 year old housewife. Trapped in a humdrum reality she wonders when she lost her hopeful, youthful self. Isolated and lonely, she has resorted to full blown (although somewhat one-sided) conversations with her walls. There is no support from her demanding husband, her snooty neighbour, or self-absorbed grown children. So when a divorced friend wins a two week vacation to Greece in a magazine contest, and ask Shirley to accompany her, she gathers what remains of her dignity and begins a humorous and uplifting voyage of rediscovery - but will she ever return?
