"The Kings of the Kilburn High Road"

by Jimmy Murphy (2004)

Set in the function room of a London pub where five friends have gathered to hold a wake and drink to the memory of an absent friend. As the beer and whiskey start to flow memories of themselves as young men begin to surface - how they left Ireland twenty odd years before determined to make their fortunes in England - forcing them to take a hard look at their lives, dreams and their place in the New Ireland.

Jimmy Murphy's highly acclaimed bittersweet examination of the lives of the expatriate Irish in London. "The Kings of the Kilburn High Road" is by turns touching, hilarious and tragic.

This extraordinary play has been playing to packed houses throughout Ireland, receiving standing ovations for the stunning performances.
